Working principle of flange

A flange is a component that connects shafts to each other, used for connecting pipe ends and also for flanges on equipment inlets and outlets. The following will introduce you from different dimensions:

structure and classification
According to the connection method, it can be divided into integral flange, loose flange, and threaded flange. The integral flange is directly welded to the equipment or pipeline, with high strength; The loose flange is connected to the equipment or pipeline through bolts for easy disassembly; Threaded flanges are commonly used for low-pressure small-diameter pipelines through threaded connections.
According to the sealing surface form: there are flat flanges, concave convex flanges, tenon groove flanges, etc. The sealing surface of the flat flange is flat and easy to process, but its sealing performance is average; The sealing surface of the concave convex flange is concave and convex one by one, with good sealing effect; The mortise and tenon flange has the sealing performance and is commonly used in pipelines with flammable, explosive, and toxic media.
According to material: there are carbon steel flanges, stainless steel flanges, alloy steel flanges, etc. Carbon steel flanges have low cost and high strength; Stainless steel flange is corrosion-resistant; Alloy steel flanges are suitable for special working conditions.

Working principle
Connect two flanges with bolts and place gaskets between the sealing surfaces of the two flanges. Tighten the bolts to compress and deform the gaskets, thereby forming a seal and ensuring that the medium at the connection of the pipeline or equipment does not leak.

Application scenarios
Pipeline system: In various industrial and civil pipeline systems, flanges are used to connect pipes of different diameters and materials, achieving functions such as pipe branching and turning.
Mechanical equipment: As a connecting component for equipment import and export, it facilitates equipment installation, disassembly, and maintenance.
Key points for selection
Pressure and temperature: Select flanges with appropriate pressure rating and material based on the working pressure and temperature of the pipeline system.
Medium characteristics: When transporting corrosive media, corrosion-resistant material flanges should be selected; When transporting flammable and explosive media, higher requirements are placed on flange sealing and safety.
Connection method: Considering factors such as installation space, disassembly and maintenance requirements, choose welding, threading or flange connection methods.
